Diesel Ban.

It's going to be an interesting day here in Germany. We find out today whether or not there'll be bans on diesel cars driving in the cities. The decision will come from the high court. When we were looking at new cars we originally thought about a diesel as the new technology is seemingly improved but the fact no decision had been made held us and a lot of other people away from diesel.

Re: Diesel Ban.

That's a very good question Muddy. The cars here are given a number from 1 to 6 rated on emission which is shown in the form of a "plaquette" stuck on the windscreen. 6 being the cleanest. Originally this was going to dictate whether or not you could drive in cities with cars with a three or lower number being banned. Now the powers that "be" along with the greens want a total ban on diesels. I can understand it when cities like Stuttgart have appalling diesel pollution. Maybe the new diesels, which are given a 6 plaquette, will be allowed. Those that have older diesels can't say they weren't warned as this debate has been going for years.

Re: Diesel Ban.

They've passed the law here and now it's up to local government in the different lands to decide what for a ban they will impose, if any. It can only play into the hands of the big car makers if they ban older diesel vehicles.

It was a Federal Court, not a High Court.

Re: Diesel Ban.

It won't be in all cities and when only in certain areas in the city. Right now I don't think any of the groups involved know what to do. The police boss said this morning that they can't police it because they don't have enough officers as it is thanks to Merkels austerity cuts.

Don't worry, Kev!

The Germans think we're a bit out of touch with reality and all with Brexit Tedc but at least my wife and I won't be caught out with an old diesel and our new car will be a Petrol.

If that's the 1.2T petrol Dacia you're talking about, I notice that the emissions (CO2) are higher than the diesel 1.5 version. Go figure.
