New Tougher MOT from 20th May

Take your car for MOT a week or two earlier?

Be very careful because, from the 20th May the MOT test becomes stricter with changes in a number of areas.

The example, above, shows a change as any car being tested early, and failing the test, is legally "undrivable" from when you took the test.

If you get caught driving a failed MOT car before the normal test requirement date you are likely to be fined, banned and uninsured!

Several other changes as well.

All these new rules will do is provide some garages with more work as some of the more unscrupulous will fail stuff that would normally have been an advisory,
Also how is this going to be policed.?
If your car fails on a major or minor, you cannot drive it even if your old mot is still valid, so how do you get it repaired? The garage won’t be able to do it straight away you’ll have to book, that could be anything up to a couple of weeks, so you would have to have it trailered away (home) and have it trailered back to get it fixed, very expensive,

Same here Realspeed, it doesn't come out of the garage unless it has received a clean bill of health....

Re: New Tougher MOT from 20th May

Can't see how any of this is new.

It always seemed common sense to me to realise that if you went for an early MOT and it failed, that you could then not drive the car until it was fixed and re-MOT'd.

Surely this has always been the case. You can't drive a car without an MOT.

There have always been exceptions and always will be. That is, you can drive the failed car to a garage to be fixed or to a garage to have an MOT.

I can't see it either realist. I've always expected to have the car grounded until essential repairs are made and they only place you can drive is to the garage making the repairs. What's changed???

that is why it gets a main dealer annual service. don't get corrosion on a 3/4 years old car that is a crossover 4x4 built for rough ground.

Have to say I did wonder about that question and the reason behind it
