Re: My new vaper

My sister wouldn't or couldn't give up the fags even when told she had lung cancer. Ironically it wasn't the cancer that killed her. I also have 2 friends that have emphysema one of which quit smoking the day she was told and the other just won't or can't give up, the latter is now on oxygen almost all day every day. My friend who quit is managing without and keeping as fit as possible, her decline is very slow compared to the friend who hadn't quit.

Re: My new vaper

Am I the only one here then who thinks ...... stopping smoking for health reasons is a little pointless as the damage is already done?

I'm not referring here to people who smoked for a few years then quit, say in their twenties. I mean people like me who have smoked for 20 or 30 years plus where you can't reverse time.

Erm yes, I've cut down and still am gradually, switching in favour of vaping but it's nothing to do with health concerns . It's the cost of fags.
I'm not been cavalier about my health either. I picked my poison decades ago and accept and expect to one day pay the price. Look at any picture of tar encrusted lungs and it's enough to make me think, that's my lungs. Bit late now.
It'll be cancer or lung disease which will take me ... not sitting drooling in a armchair with dementia waiting for a 100th birthday telegram from the Queen.

It doesn't always get you Morty.
My mum made it until 91 and smoked to the last day. She was rarely ill either. She wasn't a light smoker - always had one on the go!

Quitting smoking at anytime is better than not quitting at all, had I not given up 10 years ago, I fear my COPD would be at a much worse stage than it is now.

People who quit will save money for sure as they are so expensive but there are other reasons to quit too.

I found I enjoy my food much more since I quit.

My breathing and general fitness drastically improved after I quit.

It's known that the skin and teeth improve after quitting.

Also there are real benefits for people around you, your friends, your family, because you not smoking around them will help to protect their health too by not exposing them to second-hand smoke, however careful you think you are being. Second hand smoke is toxic too, especially around children.

Don't get me wrong ... I think it's great if you can find reasons to quit and it helps you quit.

For myself I see no point. Except for money.

Money is a great reason to quit Morty, but let me offer you another little incentive....... they do say that 10 years without smoking can significantly improve your health.

With this in mind, if you stop today, I will try to enter you into the 2028 London marathon.
