The Chinook disaster in 1994
It has come to light that the crash on the Mull of Kintyre which killed 29 souls was caused by the on-board computer which controls both engines on the heli.
Nine months before the crash an internal memo was circulated within the MOD advising that the software for the computer had serious flaws written into it, the inquiry just after the crash blamed the pilots, to the dismay of the father of one of the pilots.
The chief test pilot of the Chinook also advised the inquiry at that time he had concerns over the software but was told to stay out of the debate and not to say anything to third parties.
I smell a QUANGO odour here, . . the RAF were too eager to place the blame on the pilots, . . the crash investigation concluded that the accident was down to pilot error, . . justice has been served in vindicating those boys today.
Time for a QUANGO clear out methinks.
