Re: Retrement Apartments

Mother in law is very happy there, they have an active tenants group who have dealt with problems effectively and I guess that is why it everyone gets along. Residents are allowed to have dogs in her complex.

Re: Retrement Apartments

I have two friends, in beautiful retirement apartments, one with a garden, the other has the penthouse apartment. They both love them, like that they're managed, but have no interest in participating in anything socially. They're both very active in their own right. I do think they're great if you are on your own and don't have a lot of family or friends.

My partner's mother lives in a retirement village in Oz and it looks like a holiday village! Swimming pool, the lot! Suits me

Re: Retrement Apartments

I know a few who sold their houses to move into one when the children flew the nest. They say they like it on the rare occasions I now see them. The best one around our neck of the woods costs £1000 a week......I'm hanging on in my house I like having a front and back door with gardens and good neighbours, I've never lived in a flat only houses.

That does sound a bit expensive, although having said that my mother's care home was £1,300 per week.

I think you'll find Care/Nursing homes are a lot more expensive than retirement homes as the resident usually needs more personal attention.

Comeandgo, that's why you should enjoy your money while you have it. Don't save it to put towards your old age.The money will only go towards payment of your care home. And.....some local council care homes can be just as nice as private ones. No pockets in a shroud.

I would want the best of care homes, with a private suite as my mother had, so it is worth keeping by a large amount of dosh for that eventuality. I don't have to worry about what I spend as I long as I don't go completely crazy and buy a few stately homes!
