You may not realise but in fact you cannot leave with no deal and move to trade under WTO rules.
Section 10 of the Withdrawal Act, now law, says that there will be no hard border with the Republic of Ireland that was not there before the WA. The absence of which was secured in the 1996 Belfast Agreement.
ie what was agreed in 1996 must remain post Brexit. That is UK law.
OTOH the WTO insists on a defined trade border around member countries soasto define and collect tariffs.
Therefore you cannot NOT have one and HAVE one at the same time.
So while you do not have one, you cannot trade under WTO rules. You HAVE to have a deal with the EU that describes that border and the terms of your trade with the EU..
