Regulatory Alingment
Hi
The new Red Line for the Diehard Brexiteers.
No more following EU Standards, we develop our own.
They simply do not understand how things work.
International Trade is based on equivalent standards, written into any Trade Deal.
If we wish to Trade, we will have to have them.
Things as different as car tyres and household irons have to be made to certain standards.
This makes sense, otherwise we would be flooded out by cheap, unsafe goods underselling our own manufactured goods.
It is no great shakes.
Having been part of the EU for 40 years, we have EU Standards which are recognised throughout the world.
Very simple, basic things, insulation on electrical wires, flameproofing on kids clothes, just common sense.
There is absolutely no sense in very expensively reinventing the wheel.
The big problem is agricultural produce.
The EU is opposed to GM Products and hormones and antibiotics in food stuffs.
The USA is insisting that we accept them as part of any Trade Deal with them.
If they arrive in the UK, they cannot be separated and the EU will ban trade in our Agricultural Products.
This would have serious issues for our Agricultural and Food Exports to the EU.
We will have to decide which is the most important.
