my last 18 months full update (health)

Most will have seen that in 2015 I spent a lot of time in and out of hospital eventually after several bad " turns" the decided to remove my gall bladder. Then they discovered they could not until the internal infection cause by it was dealt with. I looked like a porcupine for a few weeks with drips and oxogen let alone constant blood tests and blood pressure checks. They actually were going to put me on intensive care ward and told my wife to expect the worst. Still the good news was by around September time I was well enough to leave hospital.
PHEW thank goodness that was over.

Then another shock

I went to my optician for new glasses, he did a check on my eyes and referred me to my DR who straight away sent me to an eye surgeon at another hospital. Again bad news (well they always say the worse) and said I had lost 80% vision in one eye and the other wasn't that good and I could very well go blind. ( Idon't think was correct but to scare me)
Well being told that really shook me up just as i thought my problems were over. He said I was no longer able to drive, more bad news, and had to surrender my driving licence.

Now a bit of good news

The surgeon is one of the top eye specialist if not just in the UK but world. So it was now time for eye drops to reduce pressure behind the eys ( glaucoma) . That lasted a few weeks and eventually required an operation in one of them as the pressure was not reducing enough.
So had the operation , a stint insert which is fairly new in the UK and only a few surgeons can do the op.
So had that and for next 3/4 weeks it was very hard not to rub the eye and still more drops to stop infection.

Ok back to the optician for another set of glasses and he said one eye operated on the vision was that of a 16 year old. Stragely enough I could see distance better without them but needed for short distance.

Mid November 2016 decided to try and get my driving licence back. So filled in the application form for a DVLA eye test with SpecSavers and went for the test. The would not tell me if I had passed or not but I only did the field test once not the three times allowed and could read the bottom line of the letter test.
Had I passed or not??? me aprehensive ? na, well yes actually petrified I had failed. 5 days or so later got a letter from the DVLA with my driving licence renewed for the next 3 years.

You have heard of being scraped of a ceiling ,well I needed a parachute to bring me back down after around 14 months without one.

So as you can gather by photography was seriously put on hold not being able to be car mobile apart rom the other half driving me about.
Hopefully all that is now behind me but still have to have drops in one eye but I can put up with that.

Now it is a 3 monthly hospital check and they are please with how things are going

Well, good luck with things. I'm a glaucoma sufferer as well, though thankfully in far milder form than yours appears to be.

Let's hope 2017 is uplifting for you. Happy New Year.

You have certainly been through the mill Bazza, hopefully the new year will be a much better one for you. Keep your chin up and don’t ever lose that sense of humour of yours. Best wishes to you and the good woman.
