Chilblains

Its been a pleasant day weather wise, I haven't resorted to the cold water bottle yet in bed, so why have I got chilblains ! ?
Are they a 'memory' condition - always there lurking ?
My feet are raging with hot pins and needles, so they aren't cold are they ?
I guess its a case of I'm just not made right

Re: Chilblains

I had to look that up, didn't know what chilblains were. That doesn't sound fun to deal with.

This isn't exactly the same thing, but I have a bunion on my right foot (a family curse that I've inherited) and I have to buy special extra wide shoes (for work and public) and wear slippers (at home) just to be comfortable. Which really stinks because I can't wear my favorite hiking boots anymore without ending up in pain because of it.

These are my favorite hiking boots. I miss them so much. BUt they hurt my feet to wear them now.

I would imagine that having chilblains would also make it painful to wear shoes.

Re: Chilblains

I can well understand Linda - I have to be very careful with footwear too
Slippers are problem as I need them to be comfortable, but the ones that are, are too furry and warm in this weather, so I have a few pairs which I am changing throughout the day ....

Re: Chilblains

I've not got corns or bunions but I have got one foot about 1/2 inch longer than the other which means that my longer foot has to be comfortable when buying new shoes.

Re: Chilblains

You mention a memory condition and I believe they are, when steven was a milkman he got chilblains that would start at his hip and go all the way down to well below his knees about 8 inches wide. On the leg nearest the door of the milk float.
Each year they came earlier, in the end a cold snap in the summer could start them off.

One of the reasons I was so happy when he eventually left that job.

One thing his doctor did say was try and keep the blood flow as best you can in the areas you get them, don't let the area go cold through lack of circulation.

Are you sure it is chilblains and not somthing else Patsy, there are a couple of conditions that cause similar symptoms to the ones you have mentioned.

Re: Chilblains

I assume its chilblains Meg
The burning pins and needles is due to nerve damage ....
