Re: Bailiffs Aggressive Behaviour

By contrast to the TV, rigged programme on bailiffs, (which is purely for 'entertainment') one of our local MP's has written today in opposition to the planned jobs going within the Job Centres...

He , making a point that more staff are needed not less, to help those like one of his constituents who has 7pence a day to live on.

Longdogs put it perfectly clearly in a previous post and OP was about the way bailiffs deal with the people .
It's so easy to make blanket opinions on the most vulnerable because of the few who don't give a monkey's for anyone.

Then to cap it all he tried to blame all the credit card companies because they offered him more and more credit.

The simplest way to avoid debt is to not buy things unless you have money to pay for them, we don't go to the pub every night, we don't take holidays, we don't eat out ever, and we don't buy things just because they've been advertised on the box.
I have never been in debt in my life .
Nor did my parents they simply did not buy what they could not afford.
When we first married we were so darn poor we bought our bed on the HP - I didnt dare tell my parents even though we paid it off in a year. ( phew)
They never had a credit card ( i have one which i have never used)
However these principles are no more.
Credit cards are offered to everyone and its no wonder people get into debt .
Same these payday loans they make it too easy for people to get into debt.

Re: Bailiffs Aggressive Behaviour

There is still HP, and it was used a lot in the 60's , 70's, 80's. We could also rent TV's as well and rent washing machines. I dare say we all used HP in our early days of marriage .
Today, to get credit a person has to have a 'credit rating', anyone surviving on £70 a week , is hardly likely to get credit for anything.
So it has to be assumed these people have fallen on hard times at some point. There but for the grace of God.......

When we first got married we got a suite on HP but we didn't dare tell anyone because we thought folks would tell us how daft and irresponsible we were. How times change eh

We have never bought anything on HP, if we couldn't afford to buy something outright we did without, however much we wanted it.

In most cases it would have been 'need' rather than 'want'.
We got our first 'hoover' on HP.
