Buying records ...

... Now there is a good old fashioned phrase for you! I miss the days when you could listen to a track or two before buying! Does anyone else?

Re: Buying records ...

I know just what you mean Tabby, I used to do the same.
It was good being able to listen to some first.

Re: Buying records ...

Remember the smell of record shops?
It was nearly as good as an old book shop!

Re: Buying records ...

The girl who used to run my record shop was gorgeous!

She reminded me a bit of Sally James of Tiswas!

Her name was Cathy Johnson and she went on to write Mamma Mia......The Musical!

Yes THAT Cathy Johnson.

Today you can stream a song before/instead of buying. It's what I do.

Google Play Music has all my music uploaded plus I can listen to millions of their tracks too.

Re: Buying records ...

I remember the listening booths in some record shops but I never used them. I'd usually made up my mind beforehand when I'd heard a single on the radio and rushed out to buy it.
When I started work and had enough money to buy albums, again they would have been decided on from tracks I'd heard on the radio.
These days, I'll get recommendations from my friends and get them downloaded, or sometimes I hear songs from a sampler given away by a music magazine.

I remember the listening booths too, my friend and I were a bit naughty as we used to listen to the tracks with no intention of buying the record

Re: Buying records ...

I think a couple of the young ones on here missed the advantage of huddling up with some tasty ladies and sharing the headphones in the booths.

PS Vinyl smells better than MP3`s

Cover art wipes the floor with Cd`s........
