The Importance of Walking

The Importance of Walking

Walking can add minutes to your life.
This enables you at 85 years old
to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing
home at $7000 per month.

My grandpa started walking
five miles a day when he was 60.
Now he's 97 years old
and we don't know where he is.

I like long walks,
especially when they are taken
by people who annoy me.

The only reason I would take up walking
is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

I have to walk early in the morning,
before my brain figures out what I'm doing..

I joined a health club last year,
spent about 400 bucks.
Haven't lost a pound.
Apparently you have to go there.

Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise',
I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

The advantage of exercising every day
is so when you die, they'll say,
'Well, she looks good doesn't she.'

If you are going to try cross-country skiing,
start with a small country.

I know I got a lot of exercise
the last few years,......
just getting over the hill.

We all get heavier as we get older,
because there's a lot more information in our heads.

I hate to say this, but we went walking with our group yesterday, and got absolutely soaked for our troubles. At least its free, but by god don't the old knees etc. ache like a bugger afterwards.

Re: The Importance of Walking

I agree with you John I love walking and do quite a bit of it but my knees certainly let me know about it. This is all down to all the aerobics I used to do when I was younger,

Re: The Importance of Walking

I should do a lot of walking, I have arthritis which is slowly grinding away my hip.

For some reason, I never seem to find time.

Come on Graham, get yourself a new pair of (titanium) hips. I can recommend a very good surgeon (the man who operated and replaced my hips and knees) and you're not that too far away from me.

Re: The Importance of Walking

I do a lot of walking, mostly up and back from the pub and around to the bookies, but seriously, if I lived in the Country I would do an awful lot more walking and I do spare a thought for those who, through some ailment or other are unable to enjoy a good walk in the fresh air. I have a free bus pass but I seldom use it, prefer to walk any reasonable distance.

I'm down to have it done, but I am putting it off for as long as I can. I've had it for years, but it is slowly getting worse. Getting it done is going to cause a lot of issues at the moment and I'm not exactly crawling around on my knees (yet), so I'm just living with it for as long as I can.
