Re: Squeaky Wooden Slats on Kingsize Bed

We found the same with bed that sat in those plastic clips, it helped a bit putting something physical between the slat and the clip, old cut up towel we used. But the real answer was get rid of the modern and replace with proper metal brackets. Since we did that no noise at all.

We got the brackets by up cycling on old metal bed frame that was in a skip, would have used the whole frame if we could have carried it but I wasn't pushing the pram at the time so could only take what I could carry. (pram was for the late mollieops when she was a pup and too heavy to carry before her vaccinations).

Re: Squeaky Wooden Slats on Kingsize Bed

Ok just another true tale to tell

When as a very young lad the whole family including my sister went to stay at my grandmothers house in Cornwall. Now this house had a room attached which originally used as an office.
Well that is where my parents slept on one of those old metal bed frame types.

Now me being excited and waitin g to go on the beach ran into this room with the old iron bed in it and my parents still in it.

Like all small boys I jumped on the bed end and yes it did, it collapsed.

That was not the end of it, as it was a tall bed the slope I created by jumping on it, (yes you guess it) my parents slide out of the bed feet first just like shelling peas.

Needless to say I didn't stop around but ran

Re: Squeaky Wooden Slats on Kingsize Bed

Today my wife had a friend round for coffee and the subject of the bed came up.

Sue also has a bed with slats - it is almost exactly like ours but with different Head and Footboards.

Sue said check the screws.

I had already done this - it was the first thing that I tried but I thought, I'll look again.

I realised immediately that I had missed 4 screws in the head and footboards plus 2 screws in the centre so I checked them first - tight.

I then found the four head / foot board screws were barely finger tight!

I feel such a plonker now..........

How that has happened I do not know but I've tightened them up - amazing how loose they were - put the mattress back on and that was all it was - SQUEAKLESS! stevmk2

Yes, precisely! It's usually about 2.30am. I may have had trouble dropping off, they may just be settling down, and off they go.
