Tezza, you have inspired me to look again at my output since 2004 & unblock the blank page syndrome which blights would-be writers of all persuasions, some terminally .
Glad to be of help. R Jr. I know how it feels to be bereft of inspiration.

Re: Poetry please.

I watched a farmer one summers day
Out in the sunshine making hay
Which prompted me to write this rhyme
Of sayings passing down through time
Things like call a spade a spade
Is one for sure that's often made
Or putting the cart before the horse
Which does seem rather odd, of course
There's always back to the drawing board
A quote that many will applaud
And then there's one that goes, I'm sorry
It just fell off the back of a lorry
Famous last words and paint the town red
I'm sure are a pair that will enter your head
And it makes me smile to hear the quote
Some things are as queer as a nine bob note
Don't call us we will call you
Could leave a person feeling blue
But then pride comes before a fall
Though this does not apply to all
They say that taking a hair of the dog
Will maybe help to clear the fog
Of the midnight candle that slowly burns
While you celebrate many happy returns
One that is true, though a little hard hearted
Is a fool and his money are easily parted
I think I will stop now before you get bored
But remember the pen is mightier than the sword
Just one final word from this silly old bloke
That he who laughs last has only just got the joke.

Re: Poetry please.

Following on from Deylon's question elsewhere:-

WORDS

Some say that sharp words never hurt you -
but they can, they will, and they do -
especially when they are spoken
by someone you thought that you knew.
Perhaps they were spoken in anger,
or perhaps they were spoken in pain,
for what ever reason - they were spoken
and cannot now be reclaimed.
However unintentional their harshness
the fact remains that they hurt,
these riddles and veiled innuendoes -
they can be unbelievably curt.
They also cast doubts and raise questions -
from where came the words that were said ?
and - were they so unintentional
or were they subconsciously lead ?
Only the person who spoke them
can stem this questioning tide,
but the speaker is closing the doors
and leaving the listener outside !

Re: Poetry please.

Here is one I wrote when I was still working in care.

Duty of Care

Dark nights are upon us
Yes, Winter’s on it’s way
Our fires will burn brightly
To keep the cold at bay

But what about the old folks
Who can’t afford the bills
They’ll shiver in their homes
Hypothermia sometimes kills

Some may be so lonely
As no one ever calls
They just sit in their rooms
Looking only at four walls

Lets think about our old folk
That may be feeling sad
A little call upon them
Then they may not feel so bad

As fellow human beings
We have a duty of care
To make our old peoples day
A little easier to bear

A small amount of our time
Could bring a smile upon their face
Making them feel happy
Restoring faith in the human race

Re: Poetry please.

CHRIST IS RISEN !

Christ is risen -
let bells be rung
and may all the
joyful hymns be sung.
Let all the world
join hands and pray
with thankful hearts
this Easter day -
for Christ is risen !

Christ is risen -
let our voices raise
all hearts and souls
to give him praise.
May the corners of the
earth learn from his pain.
May his resurrection bring
hope, may his truth remain -
for Christ is risen !
