pays to ask first before taking photo

When we were in China I wanted a photo of the Forbidden city with army guards in front. So I went up to one of them and pointed at my camera then held up my hands a if to take a photo. he understood and nodded.

By doing this he was not annoyed and I had permission, you have to be so careful when in a foreign country with language barriers. Ok not the best photo in the world but one I wanted.

On the Anniversary of the Russian Revolution (7th November) Was staying in a hotel in Gorky Street (not far from Red Square) Russian troops with their accompanying missiles and tanks began to line up in the street in the early morning. Having had my breakfast, I took my camera out onto the street and sought permission from the soldiers to take both their photograph and photographs of the missiles and tanks. Not only did they grant such permission but some of them even posed in front of the missiles and tanks for me.

Re: pays to ask first before taking photo

Just after I finished my apprenticeship the company I worked for had a big contract for conveyors in a lorry factory in Gorky. They sent over several lorry cabs for us to design the tooling etc. but we were not allowed to take any photos and they had to be destroyed when the contract was finished.
