Claudication

For a while now I've had aches & pains in my legs, especially my calves
It's OK in everyday life, but comes on when I go hiking, especially uphill

I've done some Surfing, and I'm fairly sure it's Intermittent Claudication, which is reduced blood flow caused by narrowing of the arteries

I saw my GP when it started but he didn't seem too bothered, but I think I'd better see him again

Does anyone have any experience with this please? Or any other comments

They thought I had this once Zulu, and wanted to put me on meds called 'Clopidagral', but it all settle down again and it didn't seem it was that after all. It seems mine is more caused by foot problems.

I think you should definitely get it checked out though, don't ignore it.
Good luck.

Re: Claudication

Although it has yet to be confirmed by a doctor, I'm fairly certain it is claudication
I meet the criteria & risk factors, and the symptoms match, so let's assume it is
I'll make an appointment to see my GP asap

I haven't done any serious walking for months, partly due to the weather, and also I thought a good rest might help, but it seems the opposite is true
Advice from websites, YT videos & a response from a diabetes forum recommend execise & walking
Although it is irreversible it can be improved a lot by walking & exercise, though it does take several months
Well, we'll see what the doc has to say

Re: Claudication

I wish i'd read this earlier, i've been to my Gp this afternoon. I first started getting pains in my calves about 15yrs ago, when i went to the gym 4/5 days a week. It wasn't to bad at first but over the last few years has gone much worse, i've even bought myself a walking stick. I was worried that it may be DVT, but my doctors have phoo-phooed it. Now today he's said he's going to send me for a brain scan. I asked should i be worried, sounds serious, but he just said wait and see.

A brain scan for pains in calves? Did he say what he is trying to rule out?

Re: Claudication

He didn't say a lot really, i think he's trying to see if one or two other problems i've had are related. He asked when my next check-up was at one hospital where i had a kidney biopsy, some years ago. And the same thing, when is my next check-up at a second hospital where i've had eye surgery.
I've had a brainscan before when i was in my 20s. My Mum was rushed into hospital and almost died, a few Cousins had the same thing, and one did die, So i, and others had to go for scans just to see how far the trouble ran in the family.
