Re: Scots impose ban on fracking
Hi
The boring science bit,
Fracking can be an enormous problem due to the chemicals in the water used in the operation. and you do not want to be fracking in some areas due to the geology and the presence of aquifers used for drinking water.
Done properly, fracking is not an issue pollution wise.
If we keep on importing gas and oil we will continue to be at the mercy of others, who can control price and availability, the so called energy security.
There have been vast improvements in controlling emissions from coal fired power stations, the technology is British.
It has been installed at a huge Polish coal fired station, ironically, with an EU grant.
Unfortunately we do not have huge strip mines here, so we would have to import the coal.
Solar and wind are very cheap once the capital costs are paid, Germany even give free electricity to it's factories when wind produces an excess.
This gives them a competitive advantage.
Diesel emissions are very different to coal emissions and are a serious problem in built up areas.
