That would depend on what I was employing them to do and the nature of the speech problem.

If I thought the speech problem was just laziness/sloppiness - no - I would not employ them.

If the speech problem was something beyond their control - a stammer perhaps - I probably would employ them, if they had the right qualifications, as long as the work did not involve speaking on the telephone.

Question 1. I believe it is on the increase. Partly because we do not seem to have Speech Therapy in schools any more to correct dropped 'Hs or mispronounced THs and Rs. Partly because - as someone else said - there are so many bad examples on TV, Radio and in the Cinema.

Question 2 - I was brought up to speak correctly. We had elocution lessons in grammar schools as well - not sure if that still happens. Cannot, and would not, comment on any other members.
