Plate or no plate

I went out recently for a light lunch and fancied a ploughman’s. It turned up on what looked like a chopping board. They were a bit peeved when I asked for it to be put on a normal plate.

I never understand that, we developed plates because they are convenient, easy to use and hygienic. So why go back millions of years to caves to eat off of wood and slate ?

Ha ha. I know what you mean Tezza. Food gets served up in all sorts of poncy ways these days. It's to take your mind off the cost by making it look unusual.

I suspect the restaurant owners think it’s the in thing to do after watching how some food is served up on these perpetually boring cookery programmes..

I refuse to accept food thats not served on a plate

A lot of those boards are not dishwasher safe and whilst Im no clean freak, I really don't fancy eating out and being served food from a board thats possibly not thoroughly clean

Yes, I think Jamie Oliver is responsible.

It's like when they get away with giving you six chips by stacking them up into a 'tower'.

I don't see how wood and slate can pass hygiene regulations. Wood and slate are both porous materials.

I agree, I've even had them try to serve a meal on a piece of slate , not that I let them. The very thought of old food caught in the cracks puts me off.

Re: Plate or no plate

That's the In thing now serving a whole dinner on a chopping board, even the Chefs on TV do that now. I think this is very unhygienic, germs get in the wood grains and other people have also been eating of that chopping board, no not for me.
