Re: Home Schooling

In general, I am not in favour of home schooling unless there are extraordinary circumstances. Children need to socialise and learn to deal with what life throws at them, with the help and support of parents and teachers. Protecting children from the world is not a good idea, in my opinion.

Re: Home Schooling

There is an organisation: EDUCATION OTHERWISE that assists parents who choose to teach their children at home rather than send them to school.

The LEA seems relieved as it gets them off a very expensive hook!
Our almost-11-year-old grandson has Aspergers and ADHD and at the moment he is off school again because the school cannot guarantee his safety!

He's been bullied several times and sexually assaulted at this "wonderful" school and after this latest incident our son arranged an appointment to see the Head as a matter of urgency.

All was agreed.

He took time off work, sat there waiting for an hour then they told him the Head was too busy elsewhere!

He's now reported this school and its Head to the LEA again and reported this incident to the Police as they asked to be kept informed after the assault.

Social Services are now saying Home Schooling, and they will help organise it all but, like you say, the LEA there also seems relieved as it gets them off the hook!

What annoys us all is that they were told that they'd get full support but nothing ever happens in Devon it seems. stevmk2

Re: Home Schooling

The LEA where our daughter and family live is absolutely USELESS. If they lived where we do the help for kids, like our grandson, is excellent. Our grandson is fortunate his parents are intelligent and have the money to provide satisfactory home schooling, as tutors on-line, and probably personal ones too will be needed. Other children with Asperger's, of our daughter's acquaintance, are not nearly so lucky. One lad can only go to his secondary school for a couple of hours in the afternoon because the school can't cope with him for a full day!
