Yes, if you value your country then it's your place to vote.

Yes. It is a responsibility not an option.

Yes that way they'd make sure everyone was registered.

Re: Should voting be made compulsory?

I think everyone should have to express an opinion on the ballot paper, but they shouldn't be forced to vote for one of the candidates. Over the years I have deliberately spoiled more ballots than I have actually voted for a candidate, but I always carry out what I believe is my democratic duty to express my opinion in one form or another. As others have said, too many people died for the right to vote to treat it lightly.

Ah, but 'duty' and 'compulsory' are two very different things.
Not sure it should be compulsory.

I do mostly go and vote, but if I don't like any of 'em, what am I supposed to vote?

Re: Should voting be made compulsory?

Voting is compulsory in Australia and I am very much in favour of it. It is a civic duty like jury duty (would you like to be tried by a jury of volunteers?)

No one can complain about the outcome, you end up with the government you deserve.

As for Mup's question - you spoil your ballot paper or vote 'informal' as they call it here. The only requirement is that you get your name crossed off the list by attending a polling station or submitting a postal or prepoll vote.

Elections are also always held on a Saturday so that most people can attend, you can attend any polling place in your electorate and voting is preferential so your vote ALWAYS counts.

What if all the candidates were corrupt, should folks be forced to vote for corruption?

Re: Should voting be made compulsory?

To vote, you don't need to like, you need to feel conviction, no one should vote with an absence of that emotion.
