Hearing aid insurance

Does anyone have hearing aids bought privately?

If so, do you insure them?

I have asked my home and contents insurer for a quote. To cover £2,500, I was quoted £140 per year.

That seems quite a lot to me, but a good deal cheaper than third party insurers.

I have considered the option of not having insurance. What do you think?

Re: Hearing aid insurance

My dad's hearing aid fell into a glass of water and broke. We have no insurance and is much too expensive to fix

Thanks for the response, Noolsg.

No-one else yet. Perhaps they're all too young to need hearing aids, or maybe they didn't hear me!

Why would you need a hearing aid to read posts on here?

Well yes, but cheaper than a third party insurer's quote.

I should have mentioned that this would include loss, damage, theft, etc. outside the home.

Can you afford a new pair if you lose or damage them? If not then it might be money well spent

Well, yes, that's the worrying thing.

I could imagine that I'd take good care of them, not mislay them or damage them, I suppose. I have never (touch wood) lost or damaged my watch, wallet, glasses, etc., in all these years. Of course, you can't say 'never'.

The other thing is that if I can arrange for voluntary excess, say £100, I'd be happy to pay that for a new pair if the premium were to be reduced substantially.

I was wondering what other people do.
