Feeling Down

I feel really low.I have had 2 treatments for cancer so far without too much side affects, but yesterday I had vomiting & diarhoea,I called my cancer nurse & ,as it was too far to the hospital ,she told me to call my GP. I had trouble getting the Drs receptionist to understand the drug I was on,& It was afternoon before a young Dr ,Id never seen before, arrived. She was pleasant,I had no temperature she said & if she gave me A.Bs it could interfere with my chemo,if I got worse ring the Emergency service.Today the above has stopped but Ive got an awful cold, sneezing, throat sore,if Im no better tomorrowI will call the Dr again
I feel so lonely & miserable,Ive been a widow for many years,my only son [ in his 40s] lives with me but he has health problems & suffers depression & social phobia [ prefers his own company] he spends most of his time up in his bedroom, even when hes down he doesnt talk, if I try to ask him to do something he ignores or refuses to do it,& gets angry if I 'keep on'. He wont even take the dog for a walk. I do have friends, but they dont know the problems I have with my son.
My dearest friend understands & we talk on the phone, but she lives a long way from me

Re: Feeling Down

Deylon , have a look on Fb there are support groups on there, also there may be something available on Streetlife which is local area information etc.
You shouldn't be dealing with this on your own.

Deylon, I am very sorry to hear of your troubles.
As Tess has just said, you shouldn't be dealing with these awful things on your own.

I found this site, and wondered if it would be any help to you. Please do have a look and see if it you think it worth a try.

Re: Feeling Down

The link I sent explains how to find your local McMillan support group Deylon, plus lots of other info too. Do please try and have a look.

Sounds like you need help with your son as well, have you spoken to your GP about the situation?

Re: Feeling Down

Deylon, Nobody feels good when they are having Chemo and I understand that you have difficulties hearing what people are saying on the phone... but you have my e mail if you feel that a chat would help.
Your cancer specialist has prescribed your Chemo, and should know what the side effects may be, so I feel it is his responsibility to suggest methods of relieving the discomfort it is causing.
I know a lot about your care through this, and I am afraid that I think you are not getting the care, that you should be, from your health services. If you are coughing and sneezing, you may have an infection, which needs treating, because Chemo often stops your own immune system from working... and the doctor you spoke to should know that.
Keep calling the doctor, if you feel ill, and get them to come out because going into the surgery may expose you to further illness. I have been through this and my doctor, local hospital and my cancer hospital did a considerably better job than yours seem to be doing!
Contact your vet and see if they know anybody who could walk your dog over this difficult time.
