Re: The Budget

It is at the end of the day a Tory government.
The rule of the haves over the have nots,
But when the alternative is Corbyns Labour party what choice is there?

I suppose they look at France (and other countries) and think, we too should have a Train de Grande Vitesse.

One upmanship, I reckon.

They tend to forget that France has much longer rail tracks than we do.

It's going up to 10% in 2018 and 11% in 2019. So 2 percentage points over 2 years. The Tories are going back on a manifesto pledge.

Re: The Budget

How many billions is HS2 costing again? If they scrap HS2 they can buy out the NHS PFIs and have quite a bit left over.

A Labour government would bury the country once and for all.

Their ongoing policy is 'borrow, borrow, borrow; spend, spend, spend'.

Just what we need!

Hi

HS2 is costing £40 billion, which is nowhere near what PFI is costing.

PFI is a national disgrace, hospitals which cost £11,5 Billion to build are costing us £80 Billion.

Most of the new schools have been built with PFI.

The total cost of PFI is around £300 billion.

I meant the nhs pfi only. The pfi schemes are a service lease so it should not cost 80bn to buy early redemption, but it would be substantial.

Hi

I appreciate that you were relating to only NHS PFI Annie, I was just making the general point that the whole of the PFI thing is absolutely stupid.

Not all NHS PFIs have a buy out clause, they are locked in.

One which has bought out is this one, but still at great cost.

Re: The Budget

I would suggest the very poorly negotiated PFIs are brought out. The ones that were not checked properly for affordability over the life of the lease and are causing major financial problems now. Not all were badly structured. This should be covered by the HS2 costs. The trouble is some of these are likely to be paying for people's pensions...
