Because many are standing after they buy a ticket is my main reason but this class system is rather old fashioned these days anyone really got money go by chauffeur driven limo

Re: First class carriages

I don't think first class should be banned altogether what they really need to look at is why there are not enough carriages on for those who have paid to go on the train.

They discussed this on lbc the main problems seem to be limited access at stations for long trains, they can't stop at short platforms or you'd have people falling onto the track !

Re: First class carriages

What they do do on some trains if they only have a short track is tell people if they are getting off at a certain stop is to be in certain carriages. We have done this before.

Re: First class carriages

My wife and I are going to Edinburgh to celebrate our 30th anniversary in May. We had thought about going by first class rail. However, having compared rail fares with flying, we found flying cheaper than even second class rail.

Not only that, but even taking into account the need to arrive at the airport an hour before the flight, the total journey time by rail is much longer.

So we saved ourselves time and money, both of which can be spent on other things at our destination.

(Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice anniversary present for my wonderful wife? She doesn't want pearls!)

But it's not our diamond anniversary!

She'll have to wait a few more years for that!
