Great Britain?

Hi

The UK is now the second most expensive Country in the EU to live in.

At the same time, our public services are failing.

We have less hospital beds than Chile, Estonia and Turkey.

Our A&E waiting times have soared.

The largest increase percentage-wise in waits of four hours or more were seen at North Middlesex University Hospital, with a 380% rise, the Royal Free Hospital in London, with a 366% rise and Mid Yorkshire Hospitals at 351.5%.

Pennine Acute Hospitals has experienced the biggest rise in patients waiting more than four hours. In 2013-2014, 13,867 people were not dealt with in four hours. In 2015-2016, that number rose 296% to 54,945.

Locally, things are very bad.

In January, some patients at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust ended up waiting 20 hours or more to be dealt with.

They are not going to improve, they are closing one of our two A&E Departments.

It is not just the NHS, our railways are expensive for commuters, nowhere near the quality of those on the Continent, our roads are failing apart, we are importing electricity and paying through the nose for it.

We have less and less Police, our Border Controls are terrible.

We have Aircraft carriers without planes and we had to borrow a sub hunter plane recently because we don't have any now.

Where is all the money going and why are we so far behind so many other Countries in the EU?

It may be destiny, as a Nation, we led the ascension, could be poetic that, we lead the decline?

Population size v poor investment in infrastructure, and people has a large part in what now exists.

Re: Great Britain?

I was shocked to find the number of bus services we've lost and are still losing!
We used to have around 48 busses a day through our village. Now there's hardly any apart from the main route.
I thought that when I eventually give up driving I'd be ok here.
I have no idea why this is happening apart from the fact that the councils can't afford to subsidise them now.
People are having to use cars more so more pollution and traffic problems.
That's just a tiny part of the change that is occurring.

You're right Nom!
All the homes they're cramming into our village is making things worse, we need more public transport not less!
I drove to Frome the other day and passed huge new housing estates, it's the same on the outskirts of Wells and Taunton . How are they going to get school places and doctors etc?

Good question ! We've paid to improve places to our own detriment. All that money in wages too flooding into Eastern European countries benefits too going straight into Eastern European bank accounts.

This is all very true, but take comfort from the fact that we are giving away 12 billion in foreign aid this year, forecast to rise to 20 billion in five years time. Doesn't that give you a glow of smug satisfaction, even though maybe a third goes to consultants and a half goes to dictators and their wives....

Re: Great Britain?

Hi

Now to be a bit controversial.

Other EU Countries pay into the EU, yet have much better quality of life than we have here.

We have 3 million EU Citizens here and 1.6 million unemployed.

If we made all our unemployed work, which would mean forcing some to move home, which would not be popular, we would still have 1.4 million EU Citizens here.

If we stopped paying into the EU and all foreign aid we would still be borrowing £40 Billion a year and we would still be a very expensive Country to live in with very poor Public Services.

I am certainly not making a case to stay in the EU, just asking the question, why are we being ripped off and where is the money going?
