Colonic Irrigation

Has anyone had or heard of this [ not sure re spelling ]? My friend was told by a specialist she was to have this procedure but when she was referred to the nurse to carry it out the nurse refused to do it,saying its too drastic. My friend now has to now insert a supposatory herelf every morning and wait 20 minutes before going to the toilet, which is getting her down

Re: Colonic Irrigation

Hmm,

Well it's to clear your bowels (as you know)
If she can treat herself daily for the moment, can't see why the hospital / doctors would want their time taken up doing it for her?

Sounds harsh, but I don't know the full circumstances?

Re: Colonic Irrigation

It's a ludicrous procedure IMO. A friend's sister regularly "cleans out" her bowels and spends a fortune. What the hell for? There's a reason our guts have bacteria in them, and your body naturally gets rid of stuff that isn't needed. Some people have more money than sense.

This may not be the same though at all.

Sounds like she has an issue causing a blockage that needs to be cleared.

Re: Colonic Irrigation

My sister had one and reckoned she felt amazing afterwards but since it disrupts all the natural gut bacteria I don't think I'd risk it.
Seems a bit drastic to me.

Re: Colonic Irrigation

I once worked with someone who was really into natural therapies. When I asked her what was the treatment that she felt was most effective she positively gushed orgasmically about colonic irrigation. She said that it's pretty weird having it done, but she felt absolutely amazing afterwards and that the effects last for a couple of weeks. The place she had it done had transparent tubes around the walls where you could watch all the poo and bits coming out. Afterwards you have to watch your bowels for a couple of days as having the tube up there loosens up all the muscles. I've never been tempted.....

It's quite serious having a blockage - Elvis died from one! I hope your friend is ok. The specialist must have been private because it's not a hospital treatment.

Re: Colonic Irrigation

My mum has to have it twice a week...the use of morphine and her paralysis dictates.

She uses the Pirastin(sp)system.

All nurses have to be specially trained to do it.
