Re: Colonic Irrigation

What's wrong with a good old-fashioned enema or don't nurses in hospital do that anymore?

you're not meant to have it if you have high blood pressure or a heart condition among others. Really something for young healthy people to experiment with. But it would have been a different procedure on the NHS as Tpin mentioned.

An enema only empties the sigmoid colon, the section closest to the rectum and anus.

Colonic irrigation flushes out the entire length doesn't it?

If you read that link i posted it tells you that a session of irrigation is equal to 30 enemas...Yikes!

On the other hand...Beware!!

Re: Colonic Irrigation

Heard from my friend today again, she is finding it very hard to use the supposetries [how does 1 spell this ?],she is trying to get in touch with the nurse ,who, apparently , works together with the specialist , not for him as thought but has to wait till tomorrow, she is so sore & passing small motions without realising it.Ive told her to talk to her own GP see if they can help

Re: Colonic Irrigation

My poor friend has now been instructed on how to give herself a Colonic Irrigation ,Every day for a fortnight, but has been told that it is likely she will need an operation and a bag fitted. Some time ago ,as I posted here, she was supposed to have a Colonic Irregation, but the nurse she was referred to refused to do it,instead she had to use a supposetry every day and train her bowels herself, she has suffered terrible diarrhoea and become very sore through this . Im convinced this nurse failed in her duty, but despite my friend asking her she refused to refer my friend back to the specialist. The trouble was my friend saw the consultant privately, then she was referred to NHS for treatment , So ,apart from making a complaint ,there is little my friend can do

Re: Colonic Irrigation

Poor thing.
Tell your friend to get a tub of ZINC AND CASTOR OIL CREAM for the soreness, slather it on generously after each visit to the loo.
Best tip I was ever given when i was enduring prep day for colonoscopy.
