Re: Chips.

I've only ever used smash when we've been camping, not occurred to me to buy it otherwise, it's one of those holiday buys like the tinned pies my husband likes fray bentos I think.

Yes Mups darlin' - am home, but they're still growing the cultures in the lab, so I may have further appointments in outpatient clinic as follow ups.

Re: Chips.

I usually buy McCain oven chips. I fry nothing.
You can't beat proper chips from the fish & chip shop though with a massive jumbo haddock

Haddock is now an 'endangered' species, try Huss/Rock Salmon instead, it is a lovely tasting fish and there are no bones to contend with either.

That's what I always buy for kids and older relatives, far safer for them.

Re: Chips.

My local Chinese takeaway does lovely chips. I have half a portion, put the rest in the fridge and then cook in the oven next day or so.

Otherwise, I fry fresh potato slices or chips in lard and butter, till crispy and brown. But not often!

There's no bones in haddock from most chippys these days, Joe. And I'd love to find one in Hull that sells Huss or rock salmon, but that would be quite impossible I reckon, but thanks for the tip

I miss McCain. Can't find them anymore. Those were so good.

As for the original question, I do mine in the oven from fresh potatoes. They actually stay crispier longer than when deep fried.
