Should we give more powers to our security services?

The UK has the highest number of viewers reading online Jihadist Propaganda in Europe.

Should our security services have more powers to shut down sites and/or accounts that post such material?

Are the social media sites doing enough?

It appears that Britain is the country that has most interest in online jihadist propaganda .

We have the biggest 'click' date on jihadist sites .

ISIS Has an online app which reaches 10s of thousands of people with advice on jihad , how to murder people etc etc

Most of the propaganda if in English and the UK is especially targeted .

They want as they have always wanted and promote an Islamic Caliphate

We are a country with a large Islamic population many who see themselves as Muslims first Britis second so they have a large audience .

The internet companies should block these websites.

I am quite sure that the security services would agree with you, it's a guvvermunt decision that they are reluctant to take for fear of upsetting the pic brigade and the loonyleft.

Yes they should have more powers to shut down sites.
Any ISIS app should be banned.

No, social media sites are not doing nearly enough.
If they don't or won't do the right morally responsible thing then the government must do it for them.

It's a fine line between our laws of freedom of expression and allowing the promotion of vicious violent propaganda which may encourage potential phycopaths to carry out atrocities .

Hi

I would be much happier if our Government would take the gloves off and allow Enforcement Agencies to use the powers that they already have.

The Security Services provide the information, unless and until the Government let the Enforcement Agencies use it, we will not move forward.

I suspect our security services have more powers than we are aware of, but think if the UK is under specific threat (which it currently is), their powers should be expanded whilst that threat remains.

We are governed by ball-less pussies, who are too afraid of upsetting any ethnic minorities to do anything.
I would have thought they should be appeasing the majority?

For some reason in this country, it's sod the majority as long as the minorities are smiling happy bunnies.

Make your views known! Mr Khan is asking for your views on London's big issues on twitter. You can also tell the PM what you think!

This.

Think it through. Say you want to catch paedophiles. Is the solution to veto and ban all access to paedophilia websites?

No of course not.

Those sites are bait. Many exist purely for the purpose of catching the perps who visit the sites.

Similarly you can be sure that all jihadist related sites are being constantly monitored and those people who visit them equally will be being monitored.

Think about how Facebook pulls together all your website surfing habits and builds a complex profile about you and all the people connected to you.

You'd be naïve not to realise that the security services are doing the same but on a much deeper level. They'll be tracking people visiting dubious sites. Tracking people who purchase weapons on the net. Tracking people who are buying certain chemicals which can be used to make bombs and so on.

I have no doubts that there are masses of activity going on all the time. As an ex-programmer, systems analyst and data expert I can easily anticipate the type of algorithms that will be in place to join up all the various dots and then flag up a hit list of people that need to be monitored.

The technology, intel and data will not be the issue. As Swimfeeders has often stated, the problem will be actual man-power, the human resources needed to undertake constant monitoring of high threat individuals.
