Watched about 20 minutes of it so far.

I felt sick.

I agree with you and the Guardian .....

I am a stickler for period detail in dramas like this one and I have to say that obsession was abandoned in favour of characterisation and I was not disappointed .....

I forgot I was watching "actors" and immersed myself in the "reality" of past events, which I had observed from a distance, when young .....

Hugh Grant was perfect as Jeremy Thorpe, Ben Whishaw was credible as Norman "Scott" and the lovely Patricia Hodge was unrecognisable as Ursula Thorpe, while Alex Jennings as Peter Bessell was a revelation (to me) .....

I wnt more and I want it now .....

Sounds interesting, I had a look on the internet but only found the book on which it is based. I might have been too early for the first episode.

Anyway I got the ebook to be going on with.

Re: A Very English Scandal - New BBC drama

Blimey .....

You couldn't make up a story like this and, if you did, you'd have to write a book .....

With more twists and turns than Hampton Court Maze and more incompetence than a "Carry On" movie but with the real tragedy of Caroline Thorpe's fatal car crash, the drama advanced at breakneck speed to the shooting of Rinka, the black Great Dane .....

This episode also featured a just-about recognisable appearance of the lovely Michele Dotrice ("Ooh Betty") .....

Re: A Very English Scandal - New BBC drama

I watched it last night for the first time...... I knew most of the true events so getting into it was easy.

I found that various events, on screen, reminded me of the true events & newspaper headlines....so it looks like I will now watch it all.

I am now feeling shocked that I , so easily, had pushed this event to the back of my mind and it did make me wonder how many dirty secrets current politicians may be hiding.

Yes, but worse, how many politicians continue to get away with such things.

Tony B Liar springs immediately to mind.

You're not wrong! I wonder why that particular political party should attract that sort of person.

Re: A Very English Scandal - New BBC drama

I'm watching it, but it strikes an almost Carry On note doesn't it? It only needs some Benny Hill music. It's fascinating though, and I find the gay lover strangely attractive, he seems so vulnerable and rather sweet. I daren't speculate on what that says about me ....
