Irish Apple Cake

Hi everyone, after discussing Irish cooking on the general forum yesterday, I decided after all these years later to try and replicate a cake my mum used to bake. It was delicious but I had never attempted it myself for some reason - until yesterday. It has come out lovely and I am going to have another slice with my of tea this afternoon. It is a well known recipe that one can find online but she always baked it this way and it was so easy thought I would share it with you in case you wanted to try it out for yourselves.. Enjoy it if you do….

IRISH APPLE CAKE

Preheat the oven to 180/350/Gas 4

You will need:-

3 Bramley Apples
110 grams real Butter
1 beaten Egg
Sugar to sweeten the Apples (I used about 50 ml in my measuring jug but sweeten your Apples how you like them)
110 grams Plain Flour
110 grams Caster Sugar

Melt the Caster Sugar and Butter together in a saucepan and allow to cool.
Add the beaten Egg
Add all the Flour and mix.
Stew the Apples
Place the Apples into a cake tin and add Sugar to sweeten to your own taste
Pour the cake mixture over the Apples
Cook for one Hour.

Enjoy !

Re: Irish Apple Cake

All this taste of Ireland !! SG
I remember having this in a Guest House whilst on holiday in Ireland. It was served with warm cream poured on it. It was so delicious and I have never tasted the like since!
I have taken a photograph of your recipe on my iPad and will have a go making it!

Nice one Solo, mum never had time for silly things like cinnamon, doubt if she even heard of it! Was it around then?

Now you know the Irish Malcolm! they still believe a Guinness contains their 5 a day!

Good luck with it Art and Ruthio x

It's similar to Eve's pudding isn't it just with slightly less ingredients.
