Re: Do political views change with age?

No, have not changed at all. Was a Young Socialist in my youth, became a middle-aged socialist, and am now an old socialist!!! If anything, I think my feeling about the bosses and the ruling class has hardened as I have grown older and learnt so much more about them.
Interesting that a few years back I organised a party for the 50th anniversary of a Young Socialist group in East London, and virtually all the ex-officers and activists turned up ( a few were dead), and all were just as left in their politics as they had been in their youth.

Having read this, it just confirms that I would never vote for the Socialists.

Re: Do political views change with age?

I think with some people views can change or become modified as they age. Certainly for me I would say so. I was very idealistic politically with a strong sense of justice and fairness when I was younger, rather a lefty in my thinking. These days I see that things are not always cut and dried - a matter of - right or left. I feel it's more complicated than that and IMO there is always a trade off and a price to be paid for decisions made. Politically I tend to think a lot more conservatively these days and for a long time I have not been a great fan of labour.

Re: Do political views change with age?

The reason I asked the question was because I was starting to suspect as people got older their political views moved slightly to the right of Genghis Khan but it’s good to see this is not always the case.

I don't think the people that have responded are typical of all the members on here.
The majority of responders are leftish, the majority of members on here I would guess are further right than this sample shows.

Why that should be I have no idea, maybe they don't care to share.

I have to say however, that, although I am still as left wing as I have always been, I am a great deal less liberal - especially as regards identity politics, which I see as a deliberate distraction (encouraged by the political elite) from the real issues facing us. For example, we live in one of the richest countries in the world, yet when we have thousands of people relying on food banks to eat, hundreds of thousands waiting for operations in an underfunded NHS, and many hundreds of young women being abused by men from Muslim communities who regard them as less than human, our media only seems to want us discussing the correct pronoun to use when referring to transgender people, or the crimes of MPs who touch a woman's knee or any number of other less crucial aspects of life.
....Me too Mick, Good post.
