Do political views change with age?

Do you think your political views have changed as you have got older? This forum seems much more to the right as far as politics goes than other forums I have posted on, I wonder if its because this is the first forum I have posted on with a specified age demographic. Do political views swing to the right as we age? Personally I have always been to the left politically although I might have moved a bit towards the middle now, the thought of voting Tory would still appal me though.

I think you're right .... your allegiance, if allegiance is the right word does change.

Usually through life's experiences and luck including who happened to be in power at the time you had your own greatest successes or worst failures. We have to have someone to blame.

Re: Do political views change with age?

Yes, I believe they do, and probably because initially we never took an interest in politics, secondly because we were never brainwashed, and thirdly because we have seen the results of many over the years, which could possibly influence our decisions.

It is nice to know that people can feel able to change their views and allegiance, rather than the old, old , habit of once a Liberal , always a Liberal and voting as ones parents always had done as a matter of attitude (if that's the right word ?).

Re: Do political views change with age?

Political parties also change with age always trying to reinvent themselves.
Labour become more Conservative and Conservative......Well they become even more Conservative and don't really know what they are doing. Lib Dems.....Well they are just feeble....And the Greens are just Hypocritical pacifist vegetarians. UKIP were really the 'Nigel Farage' party and were worth supporting, but now they are like headless chickens....Strutting around with no direction.
So no! I haven't changed....It's t'others....

Deifinately

We start out in the world with our ideals and slowly over the years we see how things work in the real world, and most importantly as we age and grow, build our own families , we need the political party that works for us

So yes, over the years I've voted for all 3 parties in the uk and now living in NI I swing from orange and green, depending on what parties politics are for me.

I've long given up on the idea of voting for the party that's best for the country

Have my political views changed?

Nope, not really. I didn't used to like politicians, and I still don't.

I must run against the trend on here, my left looking ideal government hasn't changed much at all.

I agree with some of every parties policies, but the basic ideologies are so different the left is my choice.........but not blindly.

Absolutely not!!! - My parents were leading lights in the Labour Party, but that wasn'tr good enough for me - I joined the Communist Party and my views have not changed over the decades since. I even remember having bitter political arguments with my parents During Wilson & Callaghan Governments.
