Can you tell me how to handle a rambler ? I put one in about two years ago, and the darned thing took off in all directions, on the ground getting tangled in brambles from next door and so on.
This year I've had a new fence, and the rambler has been decimated, so I'm starting again. The remaining branches are supported, but I don't want it to get too wild.
Sorry for the delay in replying, Puddle Duck
This Rambler is ten years old and when new was batons were nailed to the brick wall on which a trellis was then nailed in which eyelet screws were placed, to ty the branches to it. The four stems were bent into a fan shape so it grew shoots up the stems and it started to cover an area 6 x 6 ft
It flowers for 3/4 months with hundreds of flowers and deadheads are constantly removed, it is pruned down !/3 in Autumn and thinned out a little
I never feed it but leaf mould does drop on it in autumn
The branches arch all over and it is 2ft deep I like it to look natural and not too tidy.
My heavy clay soil suits all Roses. So I am lucky
There is lots of information on Youtube about Ramblers.
