People say they are fed up with austerity, but I have not seen much evidence of it.
Eating out places are still full every weekend, new cars on the roads everywhere and holiday destinations full.

It's a rumour put about by the swivel eyed lefties

You won't see them as they are too poor to eat out, rarely have a car, and holidays ? They can't even have a day out.

Just because you can't see poverty doesn't mean it's gone away. You just have to look in the right places, families in private rentals, or council housing, disabled people and mentally ill etc.

Re: We could leave the EU within weeks

Unless anything changes dramatically by the time of the next general election, I have a problem

I could never bring myself to vote Conservative, though oddly enough I think Theresa May is doing a decent enough job; mainly because all the other possible leaders of Conservative and other parties are so much worse.

I used to be a definite Labour supporter but I went off them onto UKIP several years ago
And the current Labour party is such a shambles at the moment, and as far as I can see, is likely to be so for years to come

And Lib - Dems have all but had it

So who would I vote for? Well, as I've mentioned before, I hope something similar to UKIP will continue. If not, I'm not sure what I'd do

but to have any sort of fair general election in the future, the next campaign after The EU Referendum must surely be for proportional representation.

We need to employ the specialist trade negotiators to do this and then give them an office, phones and staff.

I do not consider that six months to get them in place is unreasonable.

I agree that New Zealand have agreed to lend us some, but they are not experts in Financial Services, Pharmaceuticals, Cars and Aerospace, four of our biggest earners.

It is like building a house, you need groundworkers, brickies, plumbers, electricians, roofers.

Specialist trades for specialist jobs.

To put it another way, you don't ask a dentist to do a hip replacement.
The thing that concerns me is that the EU are going to oppose everything we try to do and will do their best to delay our leaving, the simple reason being that we will be paying in millions for as long as they can make us. As Julie mentioned, why must we keep borrowing such large sums just to keep going and at the same time pay Brussels even larger sums for absolutely nothing.

What would happen if we simply told Brussels that today's payment was the last? Would they threaten to stop sending us their incessant laws? Would they threaten to stop all trade with us? Would they threaten to close all of their borders to us?

No, but they might 'open' their borders to all the migrants and asylum seekers and put them on the trains through the tunnel, on the lorries crossing on the ferries by their thousands, such that the numbers would overwhelm our (inadequate) border controls.

That is my fear too UJ! Now that Europe have discovered that many of these immigrants are undesirable residents, they would only be too happy to send them here. After all, we are already struggling to remove the current illegal immigrants we have here, without letting more in.

I'm sure they would, especially the Frogs.

But why can't we close our borders, at least to anyone we don't want to come in? I've suggested before that ferry operators should be ordered to check every passenger and run checks on all vehicles before departing the French port. Any illegals trying to sneak in should be kicked off before the ferry departs. Yes, there would be delays, but I could live with that if it prevented unwanted immigration and I'm sure it would save us money in the long run.

Re: We could leave the EU within weeks

Hi

I have no idea at all as to what the response would be if we did that.

That is far above my pay grade.

The thing to remember is that it is the EU pushing us for a quick exit, so there must be something in it for them.

Juncker has today appointed one of his mates, a French Politician, to lead the negotiations on behalf of the EU.

David Davies will have his work cut out.

I cannot see any reason why they would stop trading with us immediately in respect of manufactured goods, neither would they close the borders, that would be stupid for all.

Legally, it would revert to WTO Rules and GATT, which means tariffs both ways.

WTO and GATT does not cover financial services, so the EU could just block them, that would be a significant loss of earnings and tax for the UK.
