Well, she didn't say what she ate the other 4 days of the week.

The key is to find something sustainable. The problem with losing weight is many people go to drastic measures to get the pounds off, but it's not something they can stick with for long periods of time. So, in most cases, the weight is gained back once normal eating resumes.

However, some people feel satisfied eating toast and potatoes (or the foods of their choosing) 2-3 days a week because, in doing so, you're creating a weekly calorie deficit. Like they say to lose 1-2 pounds per week, you need to cut your calories by 500 per day. If you normally eat 2000 calories a day and you drop your daily calories to 1500, you're going to start losing weight. Some people choose to eat normally most days of the week, but pick 2-3 days of the week where they drastically reduce their calories. With that, you're still creating a weekly calorie deficit and, subsequently, losing fat. But you need enough protein and nutrients the other days of the week in order to keep your body from sapping nutrients from vital organs, which it will do if deprived of the nutrients it needs from diet.

So, again, it depends on what is taken in the rest of the week. If you're barely eating anything every single day, then yeah, you're going to eventually run into some problems.

Re: Meta Buzz

Well said, Linda !

There is so much utter crap being peddled by weight-loss shysters these days that your basic common-sense approach needs to be said over and over again.

Oh I know. These pushers of the weight loss aids, etc, are relentless. And they charge ridiculous amounts of money. Why? Because they know there are enough desperate people out there to believe their b.s. and spend money on their products and regimes.

Seems somewhat disingenuous to take ordinary products of Nature and present them as something else.

The health benefits of turmeric, kelp, cinnamon, pepper, backing soda etc are all well established and the list is of course far wider than that. Add in garlic, chili, ginger, paprika, liquorice root, broad beans and you have a powerhouse of Nature's bounty that is packed with 100s of active compounds.

Garlic alone has over 300 active compounds all working in harmony with each other, most of which scientists are still clueless about. Your average paracetamol tablet on the other hand has just 1 active ingredient.

These foods are not about weight loss. They are simply about healthy eating and providing a wide range of really health beneficial substances. Common sense dictates that if your diet is one of such foods, that good health will follow and that a reasonable body mass will be a by-product.

Diets do not work. Period. That is, if the intention of the diet is to lose permanent weight.

Why women all over the country still fool themselves is beyond me but basic intuition and common sense must be in short supply. Doubtless an impact of the sugar poisoning.

Pummy is esentially right when he says it is a case of:

calories in vs calories burned

The story is not quote that simple though. Unfortunately our bodies don't come complete with a built in energy meter which displays numerically how much energy is coming in from the food we eat, and more crucially, how much energy the body actually wants at any moment in time.

Without such a useful device we are left to work out ourselves whether our bodies need energy (and thus food) and typically we use the hunger sense as a guide for that.
When we feel hungry, we eat. Simple. And Nature clearly always intended for it to be that simple else why would we have that hunger sense?

Sadly, unscrupulous manufacturers have long since realised that drugs like sugar are capable of messing up that entire hunger sense system and equally capable of messing with the brain. Hence people are eating sugary foods which falsely reward the pleasure senses in the brain (making us think they are lovely) and once done, the sugar then messes with the body metabolisms, gives us a short boost of "feel good" energy and then triggers the hunger sense.
Result, we feel hungry when in fact the body isn't the least hungry and doesn want or need more energy. That leads to people eating and snacking to quell the hunger pangs so the body is overloaded with energy is doesn't need, hence it stores the energy away as fats.

And there you were thinking it was the cream cake that was making you fat ! Nope it isn't. It is the sugar in those items which creates the false hunger and thus it is all the subsequent foods you eat that your body doesn't need or want that are making you fat.

Cut out the sugar and the problem goes away. Cut out sugar from tea, coffee, from your cereals. Refuse to eat any product that is laden with more than say 3% sugar content and you will find your body will heal. The weight will begin to fall off absolutely naturally and permanently.

Give up the diets. Give up being a yo-yo member of Slimming World, Weight Watchers and all the others. Just kick sugar into touch. It is the true villain which will eventually kill you if you allow it to.

Re: Meta Buzz

Okay, but here's the thing... now they're pushing for people to "drink beverages made with real sugar!" and all over the shelves these days, especially in the soda aisle, you'll find products boasting that they're made with real cane sugar instead of artificial sweeteners or high fructose corn syrup.

Granted, the best thing to do is avoid all of that stuff completely. But people are cola addicts, let's face that fact. So the question is - what's better for them if they're going to drink it at all? Diet sodas made with artificial sweeteners, your average non-diet sodas made with high fructose corn syrup or non-diet sodas made with real sugar?

And yes, I know that none of it is good. But they've got people believing that soda made with real sugar is somehow 'healthier' than the alternatives.

You can't help people who haven't taken the most basic weight loss step of understanding what sugar is, what it does to you and why you need to cut it out.

People downing cans and cans of colas and soda pops, whether sugar or sweetener based, are totally lost causes until such time as they take seriously the task of losing weight or having a healthy diet. It is a sad state of affairs that so many are indeed currently lost causes, and that is down to the manufacturers and government controls.

When a person really wants to address their eating habits they will assess what it is they are eating and drinking and do some decent research.

Re: Meta Buzz

Well, that much I know. But it doesn't help when these food and drink manufacturers push sugar as a better alternative to artificial sweetener. And maybe it is. But the ignorant population buys into this crap. I know people personally that will only buy real cane sugar sodas now instead of just giving up the stuff altogether.
