Re: Putin brokers ceasefire

That should complete Putin's coup in the Middle East. Nicely sidelining the Americans so that he can claim sole credit and he now has the warm water port Russia has always craved and a puppet government at his disposal to do as he wishes. Strange how long time bitter enemies, the Russians and the Turks can find common ground when it comes to putting the West's nose out of joint. I think this was Putin's intention all along and he has outplayed Obama at every point in the game. Obama meant well but he isn't up to coping with wily campaigners like Putin. As for the Turks, the will have complete freedom to deal with the Kurds as they wish and all gifted by the West's inaction.

Re: Putin brokers ceasefire

Well I think Putin's done a sterling job in Syria. The West has pussyfooted around for years, it makes you think that the West was making a lot of money keeping the war going on purpose. Putin might have ended up with a puppet government and a warm water port but the West weren't doing it out of their love of humanity either[no such thing as a free lunch] You have to break eggs to make an omelette and Putin did what was necessary it the shortest possible time, something we failed to do...

He did a sterling job in Crimea too OGF, what should concern people is where his next sterling job will be... Ukraine, Latvia, and from there where else. We should be very concerned.

I don't know much about Crimea and Latvia Rainmaker, but half of the people in Ukraine want him to take over because they consider themselves Russian. A bit like our Ulster where half of the people want to be British and the other half want to be Irish. These conflicts will never come to a conclusion. Just look at Israel and Palestine.

Hi

A different take on things.

Years ago JFK was applauded by the USA for threatening Nuclear War against Russia.

He was not joking, it was real, it was a reaction to the then placing of missiles in Cuba.

We, the West, have been doing the same to Putin. prodding Russia for years.

Syria, the uprising, fomented by the West to deny Putin his warm water port.

The Ukraine, placing weapons right up against the Russian Borders, getting them into the EU.

The Ukraine is a totally corrupt country.

Putin reacted, and he won hands down on both.

Putin is no idiot, he has achieved his objectives so far.

Prodding the Russian Bear is just plain stupid and we have nothing to thank the USA for in this respect, any war will be fought in Europe, not in the USA.

We are still continuing to goad him, moving troops and missile systems right upon against the Border.

To my mind it is time to back off, stop what we are doing and accept the fact that we have been outmaneuvered big time.

Hopefully Trump will do this, come to an accommodation and resume trade.

It will not be us fighting, it will be our grandkids, they deserve better.

Re: Putin brokers ceasefire

The bear needs no poking. Putin's stated aim has been to regain the territories lost at the break up of the USSR. There is no comparison between NATO putting defensive missiles in Eastern Europe and the Russians placing attacking missiles in Cuba capable of destroying cities. Putin is a belligerent bully and the only thing to do with a bully is stand up to them.

Maybe when Trump realises what Putin is really like he will do just that, seeing he is a man of similar nature.

You can agree or disagree with Putin and his methods but one thing is indisputable he is a really strong leader. I would not like to be in a fight with him, he takes no prisoners and goes straight for the jugular, scary actually.

And Obama [in his last few weeks in office] seems to be antagonising him and creating bad relations between Putin and the West. The sooner Obama is kicked into the long grass the better or all hell will break loose.
