Venezuelans from riches to hunger

The country with the greatest oil reserves on the planet Venezuela is facing poverty and hunger .
They have had shortages of food and practically everything else now for years .
People are leaving the country by the hundreds .
Chavez - the great socialist leader now dead who inherited a rich prosperous nation has somehow made it impossible for people to live .
Corruption is rife
From riches to total meltdown in a few years .

Re: Venezuelans from riches to hunger

Yes, it's been going on for a long time. I thought President Nicolas Maduro was the fly in the ointment . They are starving and reports of them eating their pets have been given on social media. The animals in the zoos left to starve to death and much, much, more. The news channels shut down.
Absolutely desperate !

We have some news as my sister in law is married to a Venezuelan and so he has family over there. Ironically Muddy, he's the son of one of the previous Ambassadors to Israel.

Re: Venezuelans from riches to hunger

Last I heard they couldn't afford to buy the paper to print more money (which probably wouldn't help anyway )
Inflation ? ...hard to imagine ;

Venezuela's inflation rate, which already is the world's highest, is expected to rise to a staggering 1,660% next year, the International Monetary Fund predicts.26 Oct 2016
