Antibiotic Effects

I have been prescribed Clarithromycin to treat cellulitis.
I was wondering if others had similar side effects.
Headache
Reflux, nausea and stomach tightness
horrid taste in mouth that lasts all day
wobbly vision
breathing feels congested
sleeplessness
generally lethargic, anxious and weepy.

Its not an allergic reaction I don't think and I am too afraid to stop them during the weekend in case infection gets worse.
Last time cellulitis led to a two week hospital stay.

So any experiences would be appreciated.

Re: Antibiotic Effects

I'm assuming the antibiotics came with Important Information and Intructions for use inserts Callistra?
If so you need to check now. .
Are your symptoms in a "possible side-effects" list or are they in a "stop taking immediately if..." list?

Re: Antibiotic Effects

I'm presently on Clarithromycin for bronchitis.
I'm drowsy and a bit headachey.
But the worst thing is the disgusting metallic taste in my mouth yukk

Re: Antibiotic Effects

Sounds like you are getting bad side effects, I think I'd ask GP if there is anything else available but sadly sometimes I've found just have to put up with the negatives if they are actually working for the problems.

Re: Antibiotic Effects

Hi Callistra how long have you been taking Clarithromycin.
I was prescribed it for cellulitis and luckily didn't have any ill effects.

One thing I wouldn't do is to stop taking them (unless you experience a severe allergic reaction) talk to your doctor when you can for reassurance and try to rest/sleep until you feel better .

I wouldn't take any more and contact your surgery in the morning.

Re: Antibiotic Effects

Thank you for the replies.
The leaflets mention most of the side effects, of which mine seem to be of the less common type.
I have been taking them for 3 days. So 4 more to go.
Ruthio I agree about the horrid taste that remains, its not pleasant.
I have had quite a few different antibiotics over the years. Just never encountered such strong side effects.
I know that people react differently to medication, as Meg mentioned she didn't have any ill effects, thankfully.
I have a few chronic health conditions and living alone, when extra symptoms appear I do tend to worry or suspect the worst.
I'll see what they say when the surgery opens tomorrow.
Many thanks again for replies.
