Why can't the government see sense?

If they had zero road tax but put it on fuel . Those with high annual milage would be using more fuel therefore paying more tax.

Or.....in my case less mileage more than average tax.....but that's a price I'd have to pay.

That would suit me. I do very little these days.

If they want to penalise those who contribute to 'killing the Earth', slapping more tax on fuel would discourage it.

Had a call from the Car Dealer tonight, he reckons the initial hit of £500.00 quid is correct, but the supplement of £310.00 over the standard £140.00 for the subsequent Five years is only applicable on vehicles with a cost price of over £40,000.00. He may be right, or just trying to blind me with science.

So have I got this right? It will ONLY affect brand new vehicles registered after 1st April 2017, and even then, ONLY if they cost over 40,000?
