Slug repellants - eggshells

Hi, I was just wondering anyone has tried this with any success. Had a slug nightmare last year using beer and dawn/dusk patrols but read this might be a pet-friendly way that works.

Tried it, waste of time, I use cut down plastic bottles or adapted see through picnic mugs with frilled edges put around young plants..

A bit of fine gravel dropped inside the plastic stops the tiny slugs coming up ...

Copper adhesive tape stuck around plower pots and planters. Lasts a long time too. As they say in the adverts, "From all good garden centres"

Thank you so much Meg! That's a super idea. I will definitely try it this year after all by my runner beans and two sweetcorn plants were massacred last Summer.

Hi Dobra I did try that last year and they do seem to help but some veggies are too big for pots. I am thinking of getting a few large containers and grow more tomatoes and some courgettes/cucumbers etc as they were devoured in my plot overnight. They didn't seem that interested in tomatoes which was interesting. It's a bit like they don't enjoy geraniums, must be the smell.

You could try nematodes,
http://www.marshalls-seeds.co.uk/nem...B&gclsrc=aw.ds

Covers 40sqm lasts for 6 weeks, a tad expensive but we get the a lot cheaper buying in bulk on the allotments.

Or organic slug pellets..safe around pets and children, I have used both, and it works for me ..

If you are only doing a number of pots then I would recommend the later, one container will last you the whole season.

Rehab, you can't use Nematodes in colder weather though, can you. Doesn't it have to be above 5 degrees, else the cold kills them?
