A tadpole?

I was taking water from my barrel in my garden, and I spotted something swimming in it.
I took more of the water out and saved it into containers, to put it back later.
I managed to net the creature and it was a large tadpole. At least 5cm long. It already had showing of rear legs.
My questions are, what is it, and how did it get into the covered barrel?
The barrel is fed from my conservatory roof.

Re: A tadpole?

It certainly looks like a tadpole
They can crawl ....
..or maybe a bird caught and dropped it.

How strange it got in your water butt Emjay.
Glad you rescued him, hope he survives.
What did you do with him?

Put it between two slices of bread with mustard.
Not really. Put it into my pond.

That’s the only thing I can think of.
