Re: Tomatoes

Last year I had my best ever crop of tomatoes. This year my plants have just as many tomatoes on them as last year but they are only half the size. They are the same variety (Shirley) and are grown in exactly the same way so I can't understand it.

Re: Tomatoes

I'm wondering whether it could be the weather this year Alan, or otherwise, the compost? There is quite a bit of talk about composts not being as good lately, even well some of the usual well known brands.
Some don't think the peat-free is grows plants as well as the peat based either.
I've taken two bags back this year, with big lumps of plastic in them.

Re: Tomatoes

It was a cold spring, compost could be a factor but JI No3 remains my favourite for pot grown plants. If soil grown has the soil gone `tired`?

Re: Tomatoes

haha after a good summer last year, I thought I would have a go at growing tomatoes this year. Living in Scotland where we have had no summer, my plants are good for nothing, hardly a truss even let alone a tomato!!! Should of known better, but just thought I would try.
