Re: I love my mobile.

I wouldn't be without my mobile phone either. Originally I got a mobile so my kids could get in touch with me while I was at work (single parent with teenage kids). It had always been my intention to get rid of the phone once the kids were older but by then I had got so used to it and its convenience that I couldn't do without it.

The kids in the mean time have left home and gone out into the world and they have never had a fixed line only their mobiles - the fixed line as far as they are concerned is a thing of the past.

Even I find myself using the mobile or VOIP far more than my fixed line infact my only gripe is that it costs me 12c a minute to call anywhere in Australia using the mobile whereas it is only 6c a minute to call the UK, USA or most countries in the world - go figure that!

When I get the high speed fibre optic replacing the copper into my house then the fixed line will be a thing of the past for me too.

Re: I love my mobile.

I find mine handy for work. At times where I'm caught up, I can go visit and do things around town. If work comes in or a client is trying to contact me, I will get the emails on my phone.

And of course the kids LOVE them. Texting is often their favorite way to communicate, so I find this helps me keep tabs on my teenage daughter.....

Which came in real handy a few months ago when the radio announced that the high-school she attends went into lock-down mode. I FREAKED!! Fortunately I was able to text her and find out she wasn't in any danger.

But.... they can also be a bit of a nuisance.

Regards,
Steve

Re: I love my mobile.

I don't care much for my mobile, granted it is useful to have.

I use mine mainly for texting, phone calls on the pay-as-you -go tariff which I have are too expensive for me. I don't make many phone calls these days and those I do make are free at certain times on the land line.

I am long sighted so have a problem with the tiny characters on most mobile phones. I can pay more for a special mobile but have stuck to my old Nokia

Re: I love my mobile.

I'm afraid now I've come to the conclusion that mobile phones are probably the most anti-social technological invention.

They are an intrusion. I don't want to see or hear people yapping on their mobiles, exchanging insults, firing off a barrage of **** words, texting whilst crossing roads (and I've almost bagged a few in my time) not to mention the pillocks yapping on the phone whilst driving.

Nearly everywhere I go, I see people with mobiles be it in the doctor's surgery when they're supposed to be switched off, the pharmacy, on the street, in a supermarket et al.

Of course, some people use them properly and for good reason, but many just use them in place of actually chatting face to face. I actually watched two girls texting each other when they were both standing together on the street.

What does the future hold? Mayhap in a few years from now, babies will be implanted with a communication micro-chip.

Plus of course, what a lot of folk don't realise is, that the frequent use of a mobile phone can actually do damage to the brain because of the emissions given out, and that's a fact.
