I'm going to Thailand in March and I promise you I will not even contemplate riding and elephant , I wouldn't abuse these beautiful creatures . Many years ago I went back packing there , I stood and watched these people climb on the back of an elephant as he walked towards and past me I looked into his eyes with the most beautiful eyelashes , as he passed me I felt the soft rumbling energy of his body ripple through me . BeautifulRe: Thailand , India and Asia
Puddle, we have been to India and Sri Lanka and elephant rides were offered in both these countries. we refused and walked to our destination but we were the only ones. We also declined camel rides in Egypt. I think the tour guide thought we were insane.Re: Thailand , India and Asia
Until recently, Trip Advisor was advertising these elephant rides in conjunctions with visits to the Temples. There was a bit of a rumpus made but I'm not sure if they still do advertise them as part of the 'experience'.Re: Thailand , India and Asia

I really appreciate your good heart and empathy for the elephants, Puddle Duck. In general, I know about the mistreatment of many animals when it comes to trying to market to the tourist dollar, so I decline all excursions and activities that involve them - and tragically, there are a lot.Re: Thailand , India and Asia
Susan m, I hope you really enjoy your holiday.. it surely will be a holiday of a lifetime.
