Old Sayings

Just been explaining the saying "lick 'em and stick 'em" to the young lady behind the ramp in the pub.
Anyone think of other sayings that are difficult for youngsters to comprehend?

Re: Old Sayings

I said to my future daughter in law. Don throw the baby away with the bath water. She really thought it was funny as she was bathing the baby in a washing up bowl and of course had never heard the expression.

I just remember my mum saying to me.

Re: Old Sayings

Now I explained one to my family just this week , ,

Sweet Fanny Adams which later became Sweet F. All

Sweet Fanny Adams is a interesting one that i found on a History Programme ,

Sweet Fanny Adams was a Small 8 yr old girl who was murdered and chopped up into small pieces ,
So when any one had something small, it was reffered to as Sweet Fanny Adams .
Sailors gave it the Sweet F ***. All when they were given their Tins of rations , inside was small pieces of meat which could have been Sweet Fanny Adams ..

But the moments that take our breath away.
