Ascites

Has anyone heard of Ascites [ think thats the right spelling ]? My friend is having a scan tomorrow and her Dr has stated suspected Ascites, Its something to do with the liver, she is terrified wondering what the scan will reveal and what the diagnosis/ treatment will be
