Melinda Gates and contraception

Melinda gates says
Giving the millions of women who need it contraception and pregnancy advice will help avoid illness, disadvantage and poverty for current and future generations.

She is IMO so right .
And her and Bill Gates are putting this into practice .
Anyone who sees those horrendous pictures of starving African babies we have been seeing for the lasy umpteen decades will agree .

However Africans may see this interference their country .

Opinions ?

It's the first sensible idea concerning Africa I have heard for a long time.

This is the right advice and should be implemented by the Government as well
It is heartbreaking to see these women holding dying babies in their arms with no chance of survival.
Many families live in drought areas where very little food is available and they should all be moved nearer to Towns

These Countries are all receiving £millions of World Aid
and wasting lots of it on Dictators life styles and the Military. Shameful!

Re: Melinda Gates and contraception

This is all very well for us westerners to say this, but most third world countries are still tribal remember, and in most tribal cultures women are treated as mere chattels who have no choice in most things.

Combine this with the fact also that most males in these societies procreate to prove their manhood and consider children to be wealth, and you have to realise that you have quite a task on your hands to turn that around, and unless we do there is not a chance in hell this noble idea of contraception can be achieved.

As the one child rule in China where the onus was put on women not bearing more than one child in Africa we are all talking about 'these women with so many babies'
What about the male part of the problem?
Easiest thing is to sterilise men after they have had 1 or 2 children ..
But Oh I forgot that would mean interfering with the precious baubles they hold so dear...

Thin edge of the wedge? Reduce the population of Africa? Which would reduce the financial burden on the West?

One...There is no one child rule in China and hasn't been since 2013.

Two. The ' baubles' are not removed in a vasectomy.

I knit clothes for " fish and chip " babies in Africa. The mothers are so poor when they give birth the babies are wrapped in newspapers. We're asked to knit items using bright but dark colours as they rarely get washed.
Some of these women are pregnant at very young ages and have been raped.
Contraception and education is needed and the men's attitude needs to change.
Contraception is a start but I can't imagine the rest could be implemented.

Where there is no financial support for the elderly or infirm there will always be a need for children...especially in harsh climates and regions.

Survival for the elderly dictates the need for healthy children, which means you need many..
