Obviously not read my posts properly swim. I've never been in favour of in work benefits or top ups. People actually on benefits because of disability do deserve more they aren't to be punished because they can't work ! Pensioners need more its not a crime to get old. Sick pay should be more being sick doesn't mean you can refuse to pay your rent !

But working tax credits are evil IMO I've never ever argued they should be more or even should be paid.

Read more carefully you may realise your error.

Re: The Tax Trap

Why make mothers work then pay them child care allowance. The kids and their's mums would be better off if the mums could look after their own kids instead of paying for a stranger to do it.

The article is about different families having the same level of income. The lower paid having their income topped up with benefits which then equals the income of the higher paid. The Tax Trap.

I know, but does it matter, if both examples function day by day?

The answer is those mothers wouldn't be paying into the system, just taking out of it.

Of course it matters, the benefits system is broken.

I've always thought that's a bit messed up also with nmw the mum or dad can end up paying more per hour for childcare than they earn ! Just a complete mess.

No, you're wrong it hasn't always been broken. See my earlier post about my life in the seventies, no benefits for us then. I couldn't afford to have more children.

Re: The Tax Trap

Why can't mothers look after their own children for at least a few years after birth?
Why have a child if in its formative years you farm it out to someone else ?
give the poor mite a few years of mother love .
